New as in brand new ,Old dial 17070 and listen for number .0

Wouldnt the old occupant have either taken the number with them, or cancelled the line that will have been in their name?0

Have you moved in yet? If not, ask the previous occupant / landlord / estate agent, but note what bradders says.
Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
The line will still be there though - You can't physically dig it up & remove it.
No one is employed to do anything to an old circuit when someone moves house.
If the previous owner does take the circuit number with them to the new address
1. They would have to be moving locally - as it can only be provided with same area code
2. The line in situ at your new premise will be renumbered automatically, if & when you sign a new contract with a provider.0 -
You wouldn't automatically have a phone number when moving in to a new property, in the very unlikely case the previous owners have left there number behind and are still paying for the line at that address, then couldn't you just pick up the receiver and call your mobile?0

No good if they're ex-directory though.Old fashioned and probably more reliable solution: Go round their house if they live in the area, otherwise write to them.0
