IDT Prime prepaid debit card - Scandalous!

Well as someone who actually is on the lower end of the income scale, and is on incapacity benefit, i thought i'd just offer my perspective for what it's worth.
I have a barclays basic account which does not offer any form of debit card, so I needed some form of payment card.
I paid £9.95 for the Virgin pre-pay mastercard which has no monthly fee.
the transaction fee is 2.95% for each transaction, regardless of it's a cashpoint withdrawal, online purchase or point of sale transaction (paying for your shopping in a supermarket for example).
you can top up for free in a post office, which takes about 3 working days to clear (i think), or you can pay 2.75% of the amount to top up at a paypoint and get it credited instantly.
I personally use that method because the 2.75% fee has never really been above £1 for what i use it for, and i'm fairly sure i can spare that
i find it incredibly, incredibly useful personally and i wouldn't be without it. and i do use it for cashpoint withdrawals as well. i also sometimes use it as a pretend savings account of sorts, but then that never usually lasts
i've also used it like nick for some situations - subscribing to 1899 as an example. with 1899 taking payments seemingly randomly, it at least offers me a degree of control as to when i need to get the money on the card to cover it.0 -
Has no one else noticed that about 4 posters on this thread are IDT reps / staff??!!

For the record, I don't work for IDT. I have had 4 cards over 2 years, various suppliers and varying amounts loaded but never yet used the rechargeable service (see my post, it doesn't really fit my MO).
I only saw 1 post from an IDT rep on this thread (plus one accusation that someone else was too). It does though seem as if there are a lot of know-it-alls who are happy to post here without offering other readers any real value ! Maybe IDT has some jealous competitors. He folks, that's great for us ! More competition usually means better choice and lower costs ! Bring it on !0 -

OK, OK!! I'll consider myself well and truly told off!
You have to understand though that these forums suffer from spam and people plugging certain products for whatever reason. And it is always suspicious when you have people with hardly a post to their name who suddenly chip into a thread singing the praises of a product in a very 'salesman-like' way.
Sorry if I offended you - hope to see further posts from you
Regards

I tried to book a ticket with this companys prepaid cc. Airline company couldnt get an authorisation but my money was gone...i deposit 140£ and 130£ for ticket was on minus...Airline co. is respectful and wouldnt lie to me..We investigated that Pegasus never got the money. It was authorised but then it wasnt for the second time (Pre-post auth)...I dunno..so confused...it is weekend, IDT doesnt work (which is ridicilous and unbeliaveble) and my acc shows 9 pounds only...Airline co said only 24 hours enough to make it available again..its been 3 days....since website daily update works my money should be on the screen too...Is this a fraud or can anybody advise me what to do...my flight is gone, i spent 200 £ on o2 topup and im so broke now...This co. makes me gurp!! if mr.ceo is here maybe he can halp me on that. Now i understand why they are on that island not in here, easy to do such things away.....if they dont take the responsibility what can i do???0

Hi, ended up getting an IDT Prime ages ago: every internet site I've gone to accepts it, so if you want piece of mind in return for some very small fees, I'd go for it.0
-
I bought a Prime card to buy books online, to limit any loss from fraud. I registered it, so that I could top it up. It's really expensive to use- charges to load it, monthly card rental, dormancy fee etc. etc., so I ditched it for a cheaper card.
To cancel the card they want: a call to their customer-services (reasonable)
A £10 cancellation fee (ripoff)
A photocopy of the picture-page of your passport, endorsed by a doctor, lawyer or teacher.(Ridiculous)
A copy of a recent utilities bill similarly endorsed.(Ridiculous)
All posted to their office in Gibralter.(Ridiculous)
The point of getting the card was to avoid fraud, so to put together an Identity Fraud Kit, and post it to Gibralter, is not what I want to do.
If you just say 'can't be bothered', the £2 monthly card charge, plus the £2.95 monthly dormancy fee, go on, and on, and on, until you can.
If this all sounds too ridiculous to be true, check idtprime terms and conditions (9). This is a separate site, they don't show these rules on the main site. They might be horrible, but they're not stupid.0 -
The Extreme Cred definitely looks to be the best one to go for. Very sensible fees. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0

Maybe not the best for everyone actually, since they announced today that as of next month there'll be a £1 a month fee. Still, £1 a month, 70p load fee and no transaction fees is still better than most. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0
