Furlough & Bank Holiday Entitlement Queries

Hello all,

I’ve read a few threads and not seen a conclusion so apologies for starting a new thread.

Ive been furloughed since the start of April and understand we should have been paid in full for the bank holidays or given these as days off - normally we wouldn’t work them.

I’ve a few questions I hope can be answered please.

1. How does calculating the holiday pay work? If the government is paying 80% of someone’s salary, is the employer supposed to top up the difference of the usual salary (for the holidays) if that person earns more than £30k? So assuming someone earns £60k a year and the government has paid the £2500 (using 20 working days a month gives you £250 a day, furlough is £125), would/should the employer pay the additional shortfall of £125? If not can you elaborate please?

2. If you wanted to take a weeks holidays during furlough and using the same figures/salary as above, what would you get? £2500 is only 50% of your usual monthly salary, would you get the government payment of £2500 plus a weeks holiday at your normal pay rate or would it be something different?

Any help with an explanation would be great as it doesn’t seem very clear anywhere I’ve read about it other than to say if you’ve been furloughed and you normally have a day off on the bank holiday then you should either be paid or get a day off. Given we’ve covered 4 BH then I’m debating taking a week to top up my furlough pay depending on answers to the above.

Thanks all
