SEISS average calculation

My wife and I have received payments from HMRC, but it has only been based on the 2018/19 tax year, not an average of the three, which would have meant a higher payment. Has anybody else had this, and can it be challenged?  We both earned more in the two previous years, in my case £33,000 in 2016\17, £33,000 in 2017\18 and £25,000 in 2018\19.  The calculation is only based on the final year, with a payment made of around £5,000 rather than £6,000.

Did you tick the box for ending self-employment on the SA103S for 2017-18 and then re-start 2018-19?

On those figures, I would have expected the grant to be a little over £6,000. You should follow the guidance:

If you think the grant amount is too low

We have used the information you or your tax agent or adviser sent us on your Self Assessment tax returns to work out your grant amount.

If you think the grant amount is too low, you should check how much you’ll get or contact your tax agent or adviser for help.

If you still think the grant amount is too low, you or your agent can ask HMRC to review your grant amount.

You or your agent will need:

    • your grant claim reference
    • your National Insurance number
    • the Unique Taxpayer Reference you used on your claim
    • details about why you think the grant amount is too low
    • the Government Gateway user ID you used to make a claim
  • Did you tick the box for ending self-employment on the SA103S for 2017-18 and then re-start 2018-19?
No, it was entered as continuous self employment

Then it seems that an error has been made and you need to follow the steps outlined by Jeremy.
    Good luck!
