furlough rehire?

My apologies first of all if this question has already been posted, I have read some similar but not the same, this is my first time on this forum.
So I was working for a company up until 25th March, I resigned my position as I was offered another role working for the same company but on a self employed basis. The new role was and is still delayed due to the pandemic, and before I left my previous position I did have discussions on if I could stay on, and had a few responses all saying that the company are not looking to take on new staff at this time, so being furloughed was never in discussion. I recently found out the companies could take back staff just to put them on furlough, and long story short they said they acknowledged that it was a possibility to take me back and furlough me but said that the company had no obligation to do so and have chosen not to as this was a decision they had made early on. I can understand the legality of all of this, but I would never had resigned my original position if the person that offered me the new role hadn't given me assurances which I think I had confirmed with them I think 3 times before handing my resignation in.
Even till now I haven't started the new role, so my question, is there anything I should do about this?

Today is the deadline for anyone to be furloughed so the answer is no I’m afraid nothing can be done about it.
Many ex employers refused to rehire for the purposes of furlough, for them it simply wasn’t worth the potential issues it could cause later on down the line not to mention the continued accrual of holiday and employment rights by the employee.1 -
The answer to your question is no, there isn't anything you can do about it.
Furlough is at the discretion of your employer, regardless of your circumstances, the choice is ultimately theirs to make if they wish to re-hire you to put you on furlough.1 -
There is nothing you can do unfortunately, you resigned from a role, they could rehire you and furlough you, but even if they did they can not back date pay if they have already claimed furlough for other employees as they can not submit two CJRS claims for the same period.
Unfortunately as you resigned you will also not be able to claim New Style Jobseekers Allowance, I am not sure but this may also affect your ability to claim Universal Credit as well.
There are still quite a lot of jobs around at the moment so the best course of action would be to get hunting straight away, any further delay will only cost you more.1 -
Thank you all for your feedback. you all have confirmed what I already knew I just wanted to basically confirm that I had explored this avenue to the end, but I didn't know that they couldn't back date it so even if they did take me back may have made no difference. Funny enough it was a call I had had from a job I applied for that suggested I look into this further just in case, and I have been applying for jobs on a daily basis for the last few weeks, I even apply for certain jobs that I thought would have been easier to get eg. Tesco delivery (no disrespect to ppl in this role) but have had response that I wasn't suited to this role, which is kind of true as I have never done a job like this before. Also get the feeling that because there are a lot more unemployed ppl around employers are either filling the positions quickly or they are able to be more picky in the ppl there select.
Anyway thank you all, stay safe and good luck to those of you looking to get back in to work.
