Package holiday to Lanzarote booked through Loveholidays  for 9 July. Flights are Jet2 who have just announced no flights until 15 July. Unable to contact Loveholidays and balance of £5k due next week. Do I pay the balance or risk my £2k deposit and cancel?

£7K to Lanzarote?! Did you book a full planeload?
If it's a package, then, unless Loveholidays are able to secure alternative flights for you, you are entitled to a full refund. I certainly wouldn't be shelling out a further £5K in the meantime. What are the terms re cancellation in your contract? 
I would email LH and say that you are unable to contact them, and that in the light of the flight cancellations, if they want you to pay the balance, then they need to contact you and advise what the new arrangements are.

Very helpful, thanks. It’s a family holiday, hence the price. I’ve already emailed LH but will try again. Good point re replacement flights, I hadn’t thought of that as a possibility although hoping it won’t be offered as none of us want to travel in July. I’ll also check the contract. Thanks again

Have you any official conformation that your flights have been cancelled? I would be wary of just using the Jet2 statement.

Nothing office from Jet2 yet,  their website tells me to refer to Loveholidays...... nothing like being made to go round in circles!

Bit of a catch-22  one hand you don't want to give them the 5 grand,  the other you don't want to risk them claiming you cancelled.by not paying the balance.
