Wizz Air flights to go ahead?

Hi all,
Last year we have booked flights (with a credit card) for December 2019 (Christmas holidays) with Wizz Air and their WIZZ Flex option to change the flight free of charge or receive voucher back to the "Wizz Account"). Unfortunately, we had to cancel our holidays and we decided to move them for end of June 2020 (Split, Croatia). Thanks to the WIZZ Flex option we were able to change the flight and pay a bit on top, as the return tickets for June were a bit more expensive. Being confident that this will all go ahead (holidays), we have opted out from WIZZ Flex option, what a mistake! We have not purchased any travel insurance at the time of booking. (I usually, do it a few days prior to holidays) I have already managed to get my refund for a holiday villa in Croatia, car parking booking in UK and refund for car rental in Croatia.
Is anyone able to advise me if now following the quarantine policy in UK, this booking could be legally cancelled for free?

Wizz Air is asking for quite a lot when you consider return flight for a family of 4. Based on those prices we are probably better off with a new booking.
  • More than 30 days to go: 30€ per passenger per flight
  • Between 7 – 30 days to go: 35€ per passenger per flight
  • Within 7 days to go: 40€ per passenger per flight

From official FCO advice for Croatia:
On 11 May Croatia reopened its borders to visitors from the EU/EEA, and the UK, provided they held an accommodation reservation in the country. Entry rules were also eased to remove the need for a 14 day period of self-isolation. The Croatian government has introduced a new online entry form to expedite the entry of foreign visitors. Visitors should carry a copy of their accommodation booking or proof of ownership of holiday homes / boats when arriving in Croatia.
But saying that FCO still advises against all but essential international travel

The quarantine in the UK is of no interest to the airlines when it comes to getting you from A to B. So the answer to your question is no.

You aren't entitled to cancel for free, only way that would happen if Wizz Air don't fly.

New User name as MSE gave me a number in my old one.

Too late for you now, but it's essential to book your travel insurance at the same time you book your holiday, because, if something happens to prevent you travelling, it can't be applied retrospectively.

  • Wizzair are playing hardball - their stance is you booked, we are flying and if you don't turn up we'll keep your money. Doesn't matter about Quarantine, breaching Covid rules or FCO guidelines or even if you are allowed entry into your destination. Those are your problems - we just fly planes.
It's the CAA that control the airlines rather than the Consumer Markets Authority. I contacted CAA because we have a flight this week that we can't travel on legally and it seems incredibly unfair that are charging us 80 Euros a passenger to cancel or 40 Euros per person to re-book!
CAA replied saying nothing they can do and try your travel insurance. If no joy then raise a complaint against the airline.
I really can't believe this is being allowed to happen.

If the only reason that the OP is cancelling is because they would have to self-quarantine back in the UK, then I don't think Wizzair are being unreasonable. Croatia is open without restriction, as long as you can show evidence of booked accommodation, so it would appear they can legally travel. The FCO guidelines are advisory only.
Your case is entirely different because you state that you cannot legally travel.
