University zero hours contract

Hi, I'm really new to the forum, so finding my way around.
I work on a zero hour contract for the local university, and have done for nearly eight years now. I am a support worker for disabled students, and our position is funded via DSA. We have been told that we are not eligible for furlough as our position is publicly funded. It took the university weeks to give us a decision, and they are flatly refusing to help us. Can anyone tell me if they are in a similar position and they have any advice? Thank you!

We have been told that we are not eligible for furlough as our position is publicly funded.Correct as the government would be paying twice.
Even though the contact does not oblige them to give you any work (i.e. zero), you might be able to argue "expectation" of hours but you'll have to pursue that with the Uni within the stated grievance process. Some employers have included ZHC within their pay schemes (however funded) and some have not. It will be down to your employer.- All land is owned. If you are not on yours, you are on someone else's
- When on someone else's be it a road, a pavement, a right of way or a property there are rules. Don't assume there are none.
- "Free parking" doesn't mean free of rules. Check the rules and if you don't like them, go elsewhere
- All land is owned. If you are not on yours, you are on someone else's and their rules apply.

They are pretty correct as they are government funded they are unable to access the scheme, only a small minority of hobs that are funded by the government are eligible. Unfortunately as you are a zero hour contract they don’t need to carry on paying you. Have you looked to see what benefits you may be eligible for?

Thank you for your replies, I've started a claim for UC to try and tide me over.0

I disagree about universities not being able to use the furlough scheme. The one I work at is using the scheme as are a number of others that I know.
However, it is the ZHC bit where you will struggleMortgage £75,300 (December 2016) Mortgage Free Date December 2051
