Bill from old supplier 2.5 years after switching

In Jan 2018 I switched gas & electricity supplier. In early march 2018 I last received correspondence from the old supplier stating they are working with new supplier to establish if there's any debt on old account - i.e. usage beyond the fixed rate bills I was paying.
Today, 2.5 years later I've had a bill come through via email from that old supplier.
Is this a reasonable amount of time for this bill to be generated?Took me by surprise and not at the best of times to be getting an unexpected bill.

Just to be clear, the DD amounts your were probably paying each month were not 'fixed rate bills' they were just payments into the account to be used when your bills were generated. You should have had at least some bills during your time with them so was it just the last bill that was missing or were there others? There are rules about 'back-billing' which limit how far back they can go when correcting their mistakes, but without a lot more detail it is unclear if this would cover your situation.0

Thanks for this.
Just the last bill missing. I've queried it with the old supplier who have said it took this long to sort out the final bill with the new supplier?
Problem I have is it's been that long my online account is closed so I cannot establish what's gone on.
There's been no correspondence in the meantime.
I will look into the back-billing rules0
