Self Employment Grant

I am self employed. Have been for 5 years. Was making a separate wage until October 2019. So the last 3 tax returns show 2 second income. All was declared and taxed paid. HMRC are saying I'm not entitled to the Grant's as I was making a second income. But as of October 2019 I havent been. Which leave me un able to work and not entitled to a grant? So no money at all?? Surely there must be a way round about that?

It sounds as if your employment income was more than your self employed in come in 2018/19, and also in the period 2016/17 to 2018/19. If this is the case, you aren't entitled to SEISS. If you haven't been employed since October 2019, you can't be furloughed.
If you are still self employed, you could try applying for a bounce back loan. Other than that, you need to look at universal credit, but be aware that if you are already claiming tax credits, a claim for universal credit ends tax credits forever.1 -
Thanks for your reply. I am still self employed but unable to work. Not been receiving the second income since October either. Not entitled to UC either. I dont get tax credits. So basically since I stopped work mid march no money has been paid to me. From any source.0

What's the reason you're not entitled to UC?What about New style JSA? Normally self employed are unable to claim this but because you were PAYE previously you maybe entitled to it. It depends on your NI contributions in tax years April 2017 to March 2019. For over 25's it pays £74.35 per week for 26 weeks. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/new-style-jobseekers-allowance

Poppy they claim I am not entitled to UC because my husbands wage covers our rent. Regardless of other utilities food and the likes.0

Also the JSA I dont know how that would works I am still self employed. Just un able to work due to Covid.0

Claiming UC depends on circumstances. As it's a means tested benefit you claim with your husban. Your maximum entitlement will depend on your circumstances and his earnings will reduce the amount you're entitled to by 63p for every £1 he earns, if you don't have the work allowance.New style JSA can be claimed providing you've paid the correct NI contributions in the years i stated above. I know you're self employed but at the moment you're not working so you would be able to claim JSA. Once you start back working then you'll need to contact DWP to report the changes.0
