O/S Daily Wednesday 10 June 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning message.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy overcast start to the day, dry underfoot but rain forecast for later. Air is warmer than the past days.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was HM chicken and mushroom pie, mash, carrots, broc and gravy. Tonight we'll be having pork steaks braised in gravy, mash and veg. The main oven seems to have died which is a pain. Luckily the micro is a convection oven too, so can use that when needed.
Work yesterday was quite quiet - we'll see what today brings. Last work day for me, but I'm working on Saturday.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC, don't work too hatd on your days off. It's gloomy and raining here at the moment. Yesterday turned out not too bad, we went down to the park and spent ages just sitting on a seat by the river watching the birds. Swallows, ducks, swans, gulls, a magpie, and a few jackdaws, fascinating.I had a go at making a mask yesterday, it wasn't wonderful. but I've had an idea about how to adapt it, (while lying awake very early this morning) so I'll try again today. I followed a pattern I saw on the internet, there are quite a lot. It's not costing me anything, I have a lot of suitable material.I hope you're ok now Redruby after your attack of D+V, horrible isn't it,Today I must go to the shops, I haven't been shopping since last week. Not much is needed.Hope everyone has a good day, take care folks14

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. We have had overnight rain but now fine and drab looking. Light rain forecast for later.
Another day of the same old, same old. This gets boring. DD expected at some point with a few bits of shopping she got me yesterday whilst she was out and about. We'll have the usual outdoor (or garage if raining) chat. It was so much better when we had the extended sunny spell and could sit in the back garden.
I tried cutting back a rambling rose that is overtaking the front. I don't know where it has appeared from as I didn't plant it. But blooming heck the spikes were sharp so the job is on hold until I can find my gardening gloves buried in the garage somewhere.
I gave in to temptation yesterday afternoon and made a big batch of ginger biscuits. I have been hankering after some for weeks but resisted the urge. I was shovelling them in like someone who had never seen biscuits before and decided the safest place for them was in the freezer and I'll just get out a couple at a time.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. Hope RR and AOD are going on ok. Take care and stay safe folks x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"14 -
Morning! I didn't get here yesterday because of being busy achieving little other than removing some weeds, they have been invigorated by rain.
Thank you for your good wishes for the dentist trip, it is this afternoon. OH is taking me by car as I'd prefer not to use public transport and I have not had to make a mask as he ordered some and they arrived yesterday. I will make one though, or rather a few as I may need them once going out and about is a bit safer. This area has been a bit of a hotspot for Covid infections.
I made a pizza last night, it was exactly what I wanted and have fed a little leftover bit of crust to the birds this morning. They have been really squabbling over it and the usual range of pigeon, blackbird, magpie and little birds have been joined by an enormous crow. They have been making such a racket.
I seem to have lost my motivation in the house, housework is boring but I do like the house to be reasonable - not spotless - and it really isn't. Hopefully it will come back, until then I'm not going to get stressy about it.
Hope Ruby is feeling better and that your toe is less painful Gers.
Have good days, everyone.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back13 -
Morning All
Grey and drizzly this morning, the garden will like it but I don't! I am going in to work today, shorter hours but there's a lot to do ready for some of the children coming in over the next couple of weeks and teachers moving rooms and getting ready for the return in August.
I went to the tip yesterday, the queuing system was a bit hit and miss but it didn't take too long. I think if I have to go again I'll wait along the road and join the convoy!
Gers, I hope your toe is recovering and you managed to sort the new room.
How are you and OH this morning RR?
Good luck at the dentist AOD.
TA - I also made biscuits yesterday but ate too many than were good for me!
I ordered a dash-cam that arrived yesterday so will try to fit it later, not really my forte but I'll give it a go!
Have a good Wednesday, take care. XX13 -
Morning all
Dull and overcast here and rain due later around mid morning. Thank you for the good wishes we both feel a lot better now it must have been something we ate but it seems to have passed now thank goodness.
Not sure what we are up to today as I dont think we will be out on the bikes because of the rain, we went out for a gentle ride yesterday and ended up doing 16 miles again its just so relaxing, OH is back at work next week so I will lose my cycling partner. It seems I am to be furloughed for July as well as the centre I work for will not be able to open for a while yet, its difficult for people with learning difficulties to understand about social distance or not hugging !!
Not sure about dinner tonight but OH bought a bit of brisket so if it does rain I might do a roast we have not had one for weeks.
I suppose housework should be on the agenda today
needs must and all that !!
Gers hope your toe is ok xx
Nels where are yoooooouuuuuuuuuu ? xx
Have good days all xx13 -
Morning all.
Hope you are feeling a bit more settled today RR and RR's OH. It will probably take a while to get your energy back.
Rinse and repeat all the encouraging messages for AOD's visit to the dentist. I have to consult my clock to discover what day it is, so sorry for the muddle.
AOD, I share your feelings about housework. What I would really like is Samantha's magic nose. One twitch and everything is transformed from grubby and messy to tidy and gleaming.
TA, I also had to make biscuits. For the man painting my fence, not me, naturally. It would have been impolite not to join him in a mug of tea and a chocolate chip cookie, wouldn't it? Well, wouldn't it? Very well, have it your way, not boasting or anything, but they were delicious and he is back today. Yum.
ScarletRibbons, like you, I also had a go at making a mask. My sewing machine has decided that it won't wind any more bobbing so I'm reduced to hand sewing. The result was not a thing of beauty but will have to do. I've also ordered some from Am*z*n that I hope will look a bit more acceptable.
Camelot, I am overcome with admiration for you attempting to install your own dashcam. Do you even understand the technical words they use in the instructions? WOW! It's all a foreign language to me. I summon my son. I didn't bring up 2 male humans and expect to have to do my own car maintenance, as I constantly remind them.
No rain yet, well not here yet anyway. Apparently there was torrential rain a few miles down the road yesterday, but not a drop on our parched gardens. Ah well, it's all good for some more more fence painting.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Some call it multi-tasking. I call it doing something else while I try to remember what I was doing in the first place.
I believe that friends are quiet angels

Have trouble remembering how to fly.14 -
Morning all! Definitely damp and raining today. Not-Our-Cat has just rushed in completey soaking so I've towel dried him and he's now in his favourite spot of the week drying and falling alseep while he does it. Meanwhile in the tidying stakes, nothing much has happened. OHs mum came round yesterday for a garden chat [lucky she did now that the weather has decided it's raining time [ good] ]] and a coffee. It was nice to see her and she brought consumables which were duly consumed.I made a down and dirty pasta sauce [ quickest ever, sausages left over from the day before with onion, garlic, tomatoes and a bit of guanciale]. That was OK but the pasta was not. I did it as I always do it and it all fell apart into bits and tasted horrible so out it went and anoher lot was cooked instead. I don't know if it's the drying process or what but that's only the second time it's happened to me and I don't think it's me otherwise all the other hundreds of times it would have gone wrong. The rest of the pack can go out. I'm not wasting my time and gas doing that again. It's second cup of tea time and wonder what Im having for breakfast, probably toast as it's the fastest and easiest. AOD, good luck still for today
Monna and TA, I don't suppose you two could do a bake off at Nels Spa sometimes could you? Gers, hope the toe subsides, ok, the pain subsides, not the toe....Ruby, are you two made of steel? 16 miles after the day before? Talk about getting back in the saddle....dp1, hope your mouth is better too. Good luck with the dash cam camelot! Hey all reading alng, hope you're OK or dandelion twirling wonderbar! Two choices, you must pick one....:) Have a Wunderfuel Wednesday!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi12 -
Morning folks. It's grey, dull and wet outside with the promise of rain today. I suppose that the land needs it.My toe is much less sore though still very coloured, mostly red still in the hematoma area. As Camelot told me I'll probably lose the nail and that can take about six months to 'grow' out.DM has spent the best part of two days re-arranging the books she can reach so far. Now there is a kind of mini-chaos in the room as she's also deciding which books are to go out. I've spied the Latin-into-German dictionary on that pile. I suspect that any idea in her mind of changing the room into a bedroom is long gone, even though it was her idea in the first place.
Whatever you all end up doing I wish you a Happy Wednesday.12 -

Morning all,Been MIA due to an unfortunate incident with a fizzy drink & my laptop ( not me!) at the weekend. It worked initially but nothing happens now.I've been in touch with a laptop repair place near us but can't drop it off until the 15th when the shop reopens, so I've dug out an ancient one which seems very slow and took a while to get going but it'll do for now!Got a bit wet when I took Miss Plod out. I had the temerity to go round the other way on our circular - she was not happy and kept stopping & looking round. The thing is when DH comes with us at weekends she'll trot, (well plod :
) quite happily. Perhaps she thinks there are hidden dangers if you go off piste and she has to protect me!No change here apart from a visit from my brother, we sat out and had a coffee and a good chat as we havent seen each other since lockdown, though we speak on the phone. It felt strange. DH and I went to a local garden centre too on Monday. First time I've been in a shop for nearly 3 months. They had very little stock but got enough to fill a couple of pots for the back.It must be biscuit season, I made Twinks, and they didn't last very long either
Anyway better get on with doing nothing so hope you all have a good day xx:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)11
