Attempting CC chargeback for holiday refund

Had a Virgin Holiday trip booked for March 2020 - they cancelled it on 17th March 2020 with a full refund promised, and I've now been waiting 84 days for this.

I've seen that other March holiday refunds have been processed by VH now, with some before and some after our dates. Can't get any feedback from VH about expected timescales for our specific refund.

I sent through a chargeback claim through my credit card company just over a week ago, and they were initially helpful. They are now saying that it will take them more than 10 weeks from now before they can look into it, with an unknown timescale for resolution. I understand that they're busy, but this seems ridiculous. I've seen that other CC companies are providing better service, but in some cases it's not clear if it's just temporary lending facilities while they look into it.

The CC company have stated that there is no set timescale for a card provider to resolve a chargeback or section 75 claim, and therefore they can draw this out for as long as it takes. Their suggested minimum time frame is 22 weeks from the original refund promise, but is it true that they can take as long as they want before they look into it? Just seems to me to be a big get out of jail free card for all the CC companies if they can deliberately take their sweet time until some of the problems are resolved....

There is no set time-frame in law for Chargeback or S75
But if you make a complaint this should be dealt with in 8 weeks, if not you can go to the Ombudsman after the 8 weeks are up.
This costs the card company so a person could make a complaint about said time-frame,  this might get the CC to move faster.
