Inherited Property- Buildings Insurance

Hi,
I am the beneficiary of a property, probate is ongoing.
The deceased owner insured the house and the policy expired in mid-January.
I have re-insured in my name but there was a gap in cover.
The porch has settled and needs rebuilding.
I am assuming I:
a) cannot claim on the deceased's expired insurance
b) cannot claim on my insurance due to the gap
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, its going to be an expensive job and I can't see a way of avoiding that!
Thank you in advance

Sorry but I think you're just going to have to pay for it yourself. The deceased party's insurance policy no longer exists, no company is going to entertain a claim on an expired policy. I doubt your insurance is going to cover either, given that the event causing the damage, if it's an insurable event at all, happened prior to both establishment of the policy and your ownership of the property.Oxford1985 said:Hi,

When did this happen and can you prove when it happened.Oxford1985 said:The porch has settled and needs rebuilding.
If it happened before your policy started - its no use
If it happened when the old policy was in force - submit a claim
If it happened during the gap - no chance

As a side note, the house insurance should be paid by the estate until probate is concluded and the property transferred to you.

Thanks All, that is as I expected but wanted to get some second opinions before I stump up for it.
Thank you
