Inherited House- claiming on buildingi insurance

Hi,
I am the beneficiary of a property, probate is ongoing.
The deceased owner insured the house and the policy expired in mid-January.
I have re-insured in my name but there was a gap in cover.
The porch has settled and needs rebuilding.
I am assuming I:
a) cannot claim on the deceased's expired insurance
b) cannot claim on my insurance due to the gap
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, its going to be an expensive job and I can't see a way of avoiding that!
Thank you in advance

Probably not an insured event - look at the policyNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

When did the damage occur? If it was during the period when there was no cover then... there's no cover! If it has only arisen since you took out your policy then you may have a claim. If it arose while the previous policy was in force then you could try and claim under that policy depending on the precise circumstances and what that policy says regarding cover in the event of the insured's death.
The key issue is whether this would be covered in the first place. Is it subsidence as defined in an insurance policy (potentially covered) or just normal settlement (not covered). Maybe have a look at the 4th FAQ on this link.
