Furlough Leave

I'm on furlough from work. When the time comes for us to be able to spend time away from home (overnight) and I decide to visit my son and his family for a few days (and I'm still on furlough), will I be required to book leave with my employer or can I just do it and save my leave for when I return to work?

Up to you. I wouldnt go broadcasting your plans to your boss, but if he rings you and asks you to go back in tomorrow and you are 300 miles away, what would you say to him?0

ask your employer. every company has different approaches in regards to annual leave and its at their discretion, not a goverment imposed regulation. the only thing that is in stone is that you accrue holiday while furloughed0
-
See what your employer says, as above what happens if you get called back? Unless your in an industry that really is not going to open I would think your employer would want to keep you available if needed.0

Thanks. That raises another furlough issue I have. Whilst on furlough, what notice does my employer have to give me to return? Do I have to 'be available' to return at short notice?0

They could ask you to turn up tomorrow0

Could they? That's interesting.0

What's interesting about it?

I am a carer for my 89 year old father who is classed as an extremely vulnerable person and has received a letter from the NHS to shield for at least 12 weeks which would be 8th July. My Employer now wants me to return to work but as I understand it I am entitled to be furloughed. Am I right?0

You should start your own thread. Furlough is not an entitlement. It is an insurance payout from the government to cover the cost of keeping you on your company's books.Romarni said:I am a carer for my 89 year old father who is classed as an extremely vulnerable person and has received a letter from the NHS to shield for at least 12 weeks which would be 8th July. - All land is owned. If you are not on yours, you are on someone else's
- When on someone else's be it a road, a pavement, a right of way or a property there are rules. Don't assume there are none.
- "Free parking" doesn't mean free of rules. Check the rules and if you don't like them, go elsewhere

If you work set days I would think the employer would expect you to be available to be called back in on them days, hopefully they can give you notice.
