Old Debt

Good Afternoon, we have been contacted by a company who have bought old debts from a fashion co we had an account with, we had not heard from the company who the debt was with for in excess of 10 years, no letters,. no chasing of the debt, the new company are asking for a debt of £500 to be paid, although currently one of us is out of work due to the corona virus, and getting no furlough are we liable to pay this after such a long time?. many thanks if you can help with advice

If it's been over 6 years and you haven't acknowledged the debt, then it will be ‘statute barred’
You still owed the money, but they cannot get any court to force you to pay.
