I sold car privatly and now buyer is askin for refund 2 month after buying the car
I sold my car back in april and now buyer wanys money bak afyer having the car for 2 month. He is sayin i lied on the add and that the car was unroad worthy. When i advertised to car on ebay i was truethful in my description to the best of my knowledge. I had just paid over 350 pound to a garage as it had failed it mot for them to rectify all issues and get it passed. They had done all the work to the car so to my understanding the car was fully road worthy. I then parked the car up straight after mot and put it up for sale. The buyer came and looked at the car and was happy with it but was unable to test drive due to coronavirus and no insurance but the buyer looked round the car and was happy with it. He left a deposit and came back 1 week later to pick it up. I then receive a letter last week saying he is unhappy and taking legal action to get his money back. I have received another letter today saying we have 14 days to refund or pay for work to be carried out or its going to court. Where do i stand in all of this?

Ignore him. If it passed an MOT then it's classed as roadworthy. If the car was as described then they haven't a leg to stand on.1

A simple 'see you in Court' will suffice for now. Come back when the papers arrive, they probably won't.2

..they are having a laugh...just ignore..

What they probably mean is now that there is a glut of used motors on the market due to Covid-19 and the prices have fallen, they want a refund on the car you sold so they can buy a different one cheaper.jpr1989 said:I sold my car back in april and now buyer wanys money bak afyer having the car for 2 month.0

Let them take it to court. Let them try and win with a fresh MOT on the car and proof of work done. Especially when it's taken them two months to decide there was an issue.Caveat Emptor, buyer beware when it comes to buying privately.1

Op do you want to refund them? Chances are you don't (unless you have some sort of sellers remorse) so don't. They inspected it, had it 2 months so its their problem. Also what are they saying is wrong with it?0

Their car, their problem. This is an oddly common topic - I don't get the mindset of someone that buys a car from Joe Public and thinks they get some kind of warranty.1

Two months! God knows what they could have done to the car in that time. They're total chancers, ignore until you see court documents. You won't.
