Covid19 & Buying a New Car

hi after some thoughts. I have been planning on getting a new used car this year.  However it seems I need to do sooner rather than later as my gearbox has gone on my jeep.

I have 2k to get a new used car.  I am a single parent.  I don't know whether to get a car for 2K which could potentially cost me money in the future.  Or should I get a car on HP, which could cost me couple of hundred a month, which I can afford but it will be tight.

Should I try and delay to buy later in the year.  do you guys anticipate a dip in prices?  Or just get on with it and buy one?  Don't want to get a lease yet as my boys are 7 ad 10 and are very messy little boys.

I am currently looking at Vauxhall Crosslands and Peuguots 2008.  These cars have low mileage and come with a warranty.  Any advice on which one to go for?

I need something to last me 5 years.

Looking forward to receiving some advice.

  • Don’t go for an suv as they cost more. Small 5 door hatchback is the way to go with a small engine. Peugeot 208, Clio, Corsa etc. They will be cheaper to run and buy than suvs.
If 200 a month will be tight then realistically you can’t afford it. Maybe look at around £5k cars and get a small loan over 2 years? 3k over 2 years will be about £130 a month and the car will be yours.

Pug 2008 is a generation older in design than the Crossland X, which is the same as the Citroen C3 Aircross.

If a £2k car lasts you ten months, and you throw it away to buy another that lasts you ten months, that's exactly the same effect on your finances as £200/month finance. If it lasts longer than 10 months, you're ahead.
  • Managed to get 3K and put it down on a Vauxhall Mokka.  Paying 150 a month so I am happy.

    thanks for advice.
