Multi finish woes....alternative?!

Like many other people we are desperately waiting for plaster to get a lot of work completed. It’s like gold dust. Or unicorn horn. Absolutely nowhere to be seen. We get sniffs of it in stock at Wickes but they’re always the stores 150 miles away from us.
I am mighty sick of the sight of plasterboard and all my belongings scattered around, and no carpet because plastering must be done first. Can anyone suggest an alternative or has anyone got inside info as to when supplies will pick up?!

(I doubt there’s an alternative as on eBay yesterday a bidding war was up to £350 for 14 bags of the stuff.....so maybe just information on when they’ll be sending out more stock)0

British gypsum are now back producing plaster products. I'd expect stock to start re-appearing in the next few weeks. Try your local builders merchants as they'll have an indication of when stock is coming in to them0

Or you could do what I did here with the kitchen ceiling. Paint something like FeBond Blue Grit over the plasterboard, then skim with a lime plaster - Lime plaster is dead easy to prepare. Mix two parts of dry sand (I used silver sand) in to one part lime putty. For a finish coat, use ground chalk or marble dust in place of sand. You can also add a dash of pigment if you wanted some colour. One advantage of lime plaster made from putty - As long as you keep it in a sealed bucket, it never goes off. It is still usable years after being mixed. Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.1 -
My local merchant rang me today to say they have sourced some and I have been allocated 15 bags of the stuff, I declined the offer as not in need at the moment. As soon as the phone went down thought to my self you prat people are paying £15 a bag for that. Never make a business man me.0

As I understand it, British Gypsum went back to work some time ago (beginning of May perhaps? When Boris told all us builders to go to work despite not being able to buy anything much) and they said that it would be June before people started seeing it again. Stocks are to be rationed across their usual stockists.Fingers crossed, it won't be much longer.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
