Conversion of flats to single dwelling house

We have found a house for sale containing 6 flats. The house is freehold, but the flats have their own council tax, electric and gas meters. I am looking for advice about feasibility of converting the flats in this semi-detached Victorian house back to one family home. Is it straightforward to change multiple council tax back to one? Will planning permission be required? (Main structural change would require stud walls coming down at entrance of each flat)
Thanks

Do you know if it was originally a single dwelling house?
  • Yes, it was originally a single dwelling house. The other houses on the street with identical layout are currently family homes as well. Thanks

I don’t know the Council Tax implications, etc... but can’t see any reason why that part wouldn’t be possible. The first thing is really the Planning implications of which having a quick search does appear you’ll need Planning for the conversion back from individual dwellings to a single dwelling. This article is quite helpful...

From the vast expertise I have gained from watching 'Homes under the hammer' during lockdown, I believe that planning permission will be required.  If all the other properties are single dwellings it would seem unlikely to be a problem.
