Hi
I have a booking through booking.com coming up soon that for obvious reasons I cannot go on- it’s in Vienna.
I have a booking through booking.com coming up soon that for obvious reasons I cannot go on- it’s in Vienna.
The hotel are not replying for my request to cancel and I haven’t yet paid for the room- but they have my card details.
If I cancel my card therefore blocking the payment will this have any negative impact on me or me booking with booking.com in the future?
I also have other bookings that I have paid for on this card- what happens if I cancel my card for the above reason and other bookings want to refund me onto that card?
Hope u have made sense and you can help!

Insufficient details in your post.
What is soon? What are the obvious reasons? Why are you not communicating with Booking.com to cancel rather than the hotel.
Your post is lacking credibility0 -
I'm in a similar situation. Personally The city break is booked for 25th July. We have quite a few reasons why we need to cancel the holiday. It was a for a Hen Do. The Wedding has now been postponed till next year. All people are from different households so unable to stay in the same accommodation together (it's an apartment). Furthermore 3 out of the 7 attendees have medical conditions classed as vulnerable. One is extremely vulnerable. Booking.com require you to liaise with the hotel regarding cancellation. They have rejected our request. Like 'imamoneysaver' we haven't paid yet but our details are with the hotel waiting for them to take the payment when the holiday gets here.
I was wondering if I was to change the details to my credit card would I be covered under section 75?0 -
Section 75 won't help you as the hotel is offering the accommodation that you booked and you are choosing not to use it. The UK government's advice on whether to travel is not the hotel's problem I'm afraid.Walby3 said:

Thanks Martindow. I suppose cancelling the card would leave you open to the hotel taking it further by debt collection and so on. Will keep looking for the best possible outcome0

To the OP. Cancelling the card will give you debt problems. Other bookings that have your card also.To Walby. The hotel is open for business and has the accommodaiton for you. The primary reason for not going is that the wedding is cancelled. I don't know the Austrian situation with regard to groups not of family sharing so can't comment.Essentially your reason for going has - gone - and for this you should contact your travel insurance which should have included cancellation of the event. Did you get cover for this ?"The Wedding has now been postponed till next year. All people are from different households so unable to stay in the same accommodation together (it's an apartment). Furthermore 3 out of the 7 attendees have medical conditions classed as vulnerable. One is extremely vulnerable." this is not the providers problem. It is your choice. Also rules about who can go may have changed in a month and some of you could take the holiday. You could try ringing your card company and explaining that you need to cancel because of the nature of the party but can't contact the hotel. That should be your key argument. At the moment your cost of accommodation is probably ringfenced and the card company may be willing to change that because all this is an unusual event but it's not likely. So firstly the insurance if you are covered for a cancelled event. Then try the card company because the virus (if you booked before it was prevalant) is an unual event. Last, wait till nearer the date for the hotel to maybe refund or offer of a future date at the same rate.None of this is to do with Booking.com. They are just an online platform providing profile for hotels.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on
The only normal people you know are the ones you don’t know very well

I was told by credit card company that you can never stop money being taken from a cancelled card and would still be liable for it. I had the AA charge a card that had been cancelled a year after the card was closed. Card company (Halifax) said I was liable and to sort it out with the AA.You can however, with some card companies, block payments being made to certain vendors. I have used this facility before. Give the card company a call; you will need to know the exact business name of whoever might be debiting your card.0
