Credit card Chargeback

Can I ask my Credit Card for a chargeback?
I purchased goods and returned them, however the company have informed me that my returns are rejected, as they say they were not returned within 14 days, they were used, and I have to email a postage label from Royal Mail for them to return the goods to me, I had not used them, and posted them on the 14th day.
I had purchased two Samsung tablets which were second hand, although I did not realize this when I bought them, and there was nothing on the invoice to say they were used, when ordering them I had assumed they were "new old stock"
However they were used, I opened them up to inspect them, and found that they came they came with the wrong charging cables and one of them had a broken case.
I received the goods on 30 April, at 10:33.
I Emailed the company on 30 April at 18:55, rejecting the goods, explaining I was not happy with the goods, as they came with the wrong charging cable and one of the cases was damaged, and received an email from the company on 1 May saying to return the goods.
I returned the goods on 14 May, at 12:55, and they arrived at the company on 15 May.
Was I too late in returning the goods, as I posted them on the 14th day?
And as they have said they are not going to return my money, I have to email a postage label from Royal Mail, could I ask my Credit Card company to issue a Chargeback.
Or do I have to bite the bullet and pay for the return of the goods to myself.

Personally I'd just ask the credit card to cover under s75 if it's over £100.  Let them worry about if/how they recover any funds from the seller.

Given the current circumstances, one might quite easily have been unable to return any sooner due to government orders to self-isolate if you think you may have shown symptoms, for example...

No you wasn't, the date you asked to cancel  was the 30th  so the 14th is the 14th day.
But if a company tell you you have to contact them first before returning, then the date would start from when they replied, so would be the 15th
In both cases you returned them in the 14 day period, (you have to return them, not the seller receive them)
New User name as MSE gave me a number in my old one.

    Thanks pjread,
I am in a vulnerable group, I have asthma, and suffered a stroke 20 months ago, and my wife is registered blind, so I am being very careful.
I'm working from home, If I had not been working from home I could have just nipped to the Post Office near my place of work, but I walked to the nearest post office, about a mile and a half away as part of my daily exercise on 13th day, only problem was that this Post Office has closed down, so on the 14th day I walked to the next nearest Post Office, 2 miles in the opposite direction.
