Self employed with new employed contract on hold

For the last 2 years i have been fully self-employed; prior to that i was self-employed, but my main income came from my employed job. I have therefore only been granted the equivalent of 80% of one month’s salary to cover 3 months.
I was due to begin a new job on the 6th April in employment, but because the guest house was forced to shut, my contact was delayed.
If the contract is started on the 1st June, is my employer allowed to furlough me with pay, even though i haven't been physically working for him yet (I may be able to go in and do some work in June)
I intend to continue my self-employment alongside, but that will depend on the owners of the other properties. If I am allowed to be furloughed in new job, I will not claim second part of self employed grant.

You can’t be furloughed for a job you haven’t started yet. For an employer to furlough you they must have submitted your payroll information to HMRC by the 19th of March. The logic behind it is To stop the fraudulent claims, the guesthouse owner in this case can’t claim for you or his family and friends or anyone else he might want to give free government money to.

You intend to continue your self-employment. You can claim the second SEISS grant. It might look odd if you did not as intend to continue to trade was a criteria for the first grant.0

I can see how this could be perceived as fraudulent, but it genuinely isn't. My income dropped to zero, because the job i was due to start couldn't because of the virus, thinking it through from your comments, it is a staff retention scheme not job retention scheme. I have paid my tax and worked all my life, just fallen in a crack with the criteria and lost out, as have so many others, at least i got something.0 -

One of the people i worked for on a self employed basis had offered me employed hours from April, and i was making my income up by continuing with some of my self employed jobs as well. I noticed you say you have appealed your grant, i couldn't see where to do that?

Anyway, you have a contract with a start date so, potentially, the employer is liable for June salary unless they have made other arrangements. What have they said to you about varying the contract (the job offer) that you already have?- All land is owned. If you are not on yours, you are on someone else's
- When on someone else's be it a road, a pavement, a right of way or a property there are rules. Don't assume there are none.
- "Free parking" doesn't mean free of rules. Check the rules and if you don't like them, go elsewhere
- All land is owned. If you are not on yours, you are on someone else's and their rules apply.

I have only missed out because if my contract had started earlier, i would be receiving an income monthly, not just a third of my earnings, which i have to wait 3 months for, but i am grateful i get that.
If nothing changes, i am starting the last week of June, to prepare for re opening in July, and hopefully the other properties i look after will also start up again. Fingers crossed

I do not understand this comment and I cannot assist. I am not self-employed and, therefore, never claimed SEISS or appealed. Maybe cross-wires with someone else's post, but reading through the thread I could not see that either.frustratedbyusername said:
