would love to know any success stories where Timeshare’s that are in perpetuity have been relinquished

I got rid of one owned by MacDonald resorts. That was only possible by paying them the equivalent of 4 x the annual maintenance fees, and it was stated by MacDonald Resorts as being a one time offer from them. I did get 2 years occupancy rights, although not in my own unit and not at decent times. Nonetheless I glad to be rid of it. Maintenance fees had increased over 5 fold despite us being told that m/f would only increase by the rate of inflation. Unfortunately that wasn't in the written contract, (I wasn't the only one caught out by that)

Did you use an external company to do the exiting for you? Thanks.0

All dealings were direct with MacDonald Resorts.Everybody needs to be aware that they would get very little, if anything, on the resale market.

IMO never use an external company especially the ones that want an upfront free. You will get nothing for your money.0

A reputable timeshare company (some would say a rare beast) would be expected to engage with owners seeking to exit on a multiple of the annual maintenance fee per week owned. Like others have said before, I would never dream of using an external company. I believe there has been litigation in respect of in perpetuity contracts and some of these may be voidable depending on which jurisdiction they were located.
One source of information is Tripadvisor and as an example there are numerous pages on the topic of “Getting Out of Petchey Leisure”.
Personally, I would aim to do this sort of deal in person, on site, face to face with an authorised member of the management team and nail it down in writing during the course of my holiday visit.
This subject is brought up each year in my own timeshare located in Portugal, and some owners have actually negotiated their own sales, normally to Portuguese families many of whom are prepared to make a financial commitment to family holidays in nice resorts. Red weeks are normally always in great demand, but you really shouldn’t expect a lot of money. A quick gander on eBay will illustrate this, but don’t be taken in by the ones advertised for silly money which will never sell.1 -
We owned at Westgate in the USA they took it back for the equivalent of one years maintenance, happy with that...1
