Unregulated journalists who take no responsibility for their advice say the darndest things. It doesn't actually say it is OK, it says it is a cheap option, which is very different. It could make it clearer that it is a silly thing to do but it doesn't actually endorse it. It also points you towards how you can get a Will done by an SRA-regulated solicitor for free during Free Wills Month if you are the right age.And I suppose using a Will Writer isn't really DIY'ing anyway.Indeed. As you get neither the cost saving of DIY nor the regulatory protection of using a solicitor, it's the worst of both worlds. The Will writer will update his Will for free, and obviously he has already paid her once to get it done in the first place. I'm sure he wold be happy to have it redone with a solicitor, but only if it was really necessary to shell out the additional money.
My mum's Will is with Probate at the moment, so I suppose if there are no issues with her's during Probate then his should be fine too? Or am I overlooking something?Wills are often much simpler on the first death than the second (as the first death may simply be "everything to spouse") so it is very possible that any mistakes wouldn't come to light until the second death. It would be a very good idea to get the job done properly, especially now that mum has died, and you know your will writer is prone to incompetent and potentially extremely expensive mistakes.0
