Virgin flight status confusion

Hi, we are booked on VS019 to SFO on July 19th.  VA have publicly said they are only starting again on the 20th and SFO is not one of the initial destinations so I'm fully expecting the flight to be cancelled and join the queue for a refund. That's our preference anyhow as our trip to California would be very different to what we envisaged when booking this trip 9 months ago.
If I look on VA website and try to book this flight out of interest it no longer exists.. However if I check my account on the Vigin app it still shows the flight as scheduled / on time!! I also have nothing formal via email from VA re. a cancellation.
Has anyone seen similar with their bookings? Does it take them a while to get everything in sync?
Thanks.

Many airline have stopped new bookings for dates, but not officially cancelled them  to hold off giving refunds.
New User name as MSE gave me a number in my old one.

My experience is that Virgin cancelled the outbound flight about 3/4 weeks before it was scheduled. The inbound flight was cancelled a week or so later.

My return flight booking - the outbound on 28 June = cancelled.  The inbound 8 July = still showing.  (This is both on VA & Expedia)
  • I'm assuming if the outbound flight is cancelled that's the trigger to apply for a refund for the full booking? We have 4 return tickets and over £4k to refund.
Surely the return flight in mid-August would be refundable even if it went ahead due to the outbound cancellation?

Were they booked as return tickets?  Or two singles?

If returns, yes them cancelling the outbound should mean you can have a refund for the whole return itinerary.

Unsurprisingly with the sheer amount of work involved airlines will be working through flights in a systematic date order.
  • Thanks for the replies.  Yes they were booked as return tickets.
The cancellation email has just arrived this evening...strangely enough no mention of how to apply for a refund… now the fun begins I guess.
