We moved into ower new home Jan 19 we found out through checks on the property that the electrics were tampered with that the the previous owner had done some electrics in the kitchen which kept tripping the main switch box so he tampered with the trip to stop it from tripping which was a massive health and safety risk the following month's bill was massive I queried this with EON and asked them to come out and check the metre hadn't been tampered with they came to my property removed both metres gas and electricity without my knowledge or permission also installed brand new metres they didn't investigate the old metres or check if it was faulty or it's been tampered with and I've had issues from then till now I've asked them how the bill could be so high and every single bill afterwards is so low could they they give me an explanation and all they keep doing is raising complaints and closing them where do I go from here sorry about no punctuation I have severe learning difficulties

Have you an advocate or someone who can help you ?
I think it unlikely that the tampering caused your big bills - the usual cause is a meter reading issue and it may well have been due to the previous tenant as well as tampering with meters not being bothered about reading meters or paying bills either. Eon will have been justified in changing the meters.
You say that the bills are now low - hopefully you are submitting readings.
I suggest that you put the history behind you and enjoy your new home.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1 -
If you have your meter readings from when you first moved in and the readings used on the bills up to and including the one that shows the final reading on the meters that were removed we can probably help to work it out.The odds are the large bill was the result of an estimated meter reading at some point.Just post the meter readings and the amounts you were charged each time and we can go from there.0

I hope you're on the Priority Services Register? If not, then register now. It's possible that some bills have been too low because they have been estimated. If you look at the bills, some meter readings will probably have an 'E' for Estimated next to them. If the meter had been bypassed then it's likely that these estimates will have been too low. The system will then catch up when the meter is next read; you'll probably see a different letter next to the reading, e.g. C for Customer, M for Meter reader, A for Actual, etc. So it all comes out in the wash.Make sure that the new meters started off at 00000: there's usually a sticker on the meter stating its starting reading, and this should be the same as the first new reading on the bill.Unless they are smart meters, make sure that you send meter readings every month. If that is difficult, then as a Priority Services customer you may be able to have them read for you by a meter reader. Even with smart meters, check your bills to make sure that estimates are not being used: smart meters don't always phone home successfully !0

Already some excellent advice on the thread so thank you.
I just wanted to reiterate what Gerry1 has said and please make sure you're on the Priority Services Register.
You can check the calculations by making sure we opened the account from the meter reads you provided when you moved in, you can also check if there is a sticker on the new meters, as this will show the reads that the old meters were removed on.
Do you have an online account? If you can it would be worth registering for one, as then you can keep a close eye on your usage and you can pop regular reads on there to avoid estimated bills.
Thank you
