New York in October

I booked flights only, with Virgin Atlantic in December 2019 for a return trip to New York in October 2020.
Due to everything that has happened we now want to cancel them for a variety of reasons.
I've spoken to Virgin and from mid July it sounds like it is business as usual.
Where do we stand on wanting to cancel the flights? I'm concerned we will get to October and NY will be open as normal, when in actual fact it wasn't what we signed up to in December. Facemasks on flights and restaurants etc.
Any help would be appreciated

You have no rights to cancel

Any refund if you cancel is determined by the type of ticket you purchased and the terms and conditions governing it.

As you booked flights only what you booked with Virgin is to get you from A to B.
If they do that then they have fulfilled the contract.
If Virgin are flying in Oct, then with them the options are, to try and move the flight,  go on the flight, or stay at home at write the money off.

You are free to decide not to go and to cancel but you won't be entitled to a refund unless you purchased a fully-flexible ticket.

I would hang tight and see if Virgin Atlantic offers a relaxation of ticket restrictions and perhaps a travel waiver to amend to a later date.  Something only likely I think much nearer to departure.   Don't however expect a refund.
  • Thanks everyone. I guess it's a case of hanging tight and waiting to see if we can amend to a later date
