Gov.uk says vehicle details not found for the private plate. The VW I was trying to find said tax due 2005.0

It’s the number plate rather than the VW that I’m more interested in. Do you know, if the car that it’s on has been scrapped, presumably the number plate is then lost?No if it had been scrapped the number plate goes back in the pool to be reused or bought.
The car may not have actually been physically scrapped, and may one day resurface - at which point it would still be entitled to that plate.
Plates are NEVER reissued.0
