Travel to France by ferry

We are wondering where we stand having booked to go to France in July with DFDS ferries. The holiday property are offering to move booking to next year. DFDS are saying no refund and currently future travel with the voucher appears to have to be within 12 months which is no good to us. We have insurance with Explorer Travel. Any advice?
