New 2nd home advice

We have just completed our holiday home purchase. The home is in Cornwall and we live
in Derbyshire. Are we able to travel to the home in order to pick up keys and start getting the house ready for the rental business?  I know you can travel for business purposes. Any advice would be gratefully received.

No limit in England on how far you can travel, but you can't stay overnight unless there is a reasonable excuase, not sure if that meets the criteria.

As I understand the current rules, you can travel as far as you like in England but you are not allowed to stay away from home overnight.

Have the keys posted to you. It's too far for a day trip. In the meantime, you might want to consider whether the property should be treated as a commercial property subject to rates (failure to do so cost a lot of people their £10,000 grant but you won't qualify for that of course). Maybe consider engaging a local agent to get the property ready and manage the rentals for you given you cannot readily travel there at the moment.  If you do that, it could be ready for holiday lets as soon as the rules permit and that peak-season income will more than cover the costs of the agent.
