Hi, I booked hotel on 16 February 2020 to Valencia travel date 2 May 2020 on a non-cancellation basis.  The hotel then cancelled the booking on 21 April 2020, they have offered us vouchers which I have declined, received an email from them saying to refund the prepayment they required full bank details to do a bank transfer.  I asked if they could refund the amount back onto the credit card I used to make the booking but they have said "The reason to ask your bank details is because the limit of time of refund in a credit card is 1 month after charge. So, it is no possible for a refund in the same credit card."  I have spoken to the bank and they have said they have not heard of this before.  Is it safe to email them my bank details for a refund.  Thanks for any help

Did you pay the hotel direct with your credit card?

They is no rule that limits to refunds to only a month.
As the hotel have seem to be dishonest about the reason ( hard to believe anyone who deal with payments wouldn't know the rules) I wouldn't be sending my bank details.
I would use a Chargeback,  the hotel can contest this, but if they say they owe you a refund, hard to see how they would.

Ok I may go down that route

  • HI
My hotel reservation through Hotels.com was cancelled by them due to the pandemic. They say they have sent me a refund voucher which I have not received. Every time I speak to them they say they will re send it within 14 days, which still hasn't happened. Just wondered if anyone else is having this issue and whether I would be better to try to claim through the credit card it was paid on as the cancelation was in April?
    Many thanks

i would contact your credit card and ask them about putting in a claim. You may be too late for a chargeback- 120 days- but could try S75 claim if the booking was for more than £100
