Universal Credit

My son has premium bonds totalling over £16,000.  I purchased the bonds for him, using money I had saved for him since birth.  He did not purchase them using his own income. Are the bonds still classed as his savings, for the purpose of applying for Universal Credit, or is gifted money viewed differently.

Thank you

It is classed as savings and will  be excluded from claiming all means tested benefits.

Yes, as poppy says, it's his savings and as such he is not eligible to claim Universal credit.
If he has recently lost a job, he could claim New Style Jobseekers Allowance which does not take savings into account.

But can only claim ns-JSA if he was an NI record for April 2017 to March 2018.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

And she also says she purchased them.  Why are you speaking for the OP please?

Because it's a forum, don't know how they work?

Why so aggressive over multiple threads?

She also said she purchased them for her son. It makes no difference anyway because they are still classed as savings. There's no rules on the forum saying you can't quote what someone else has said. You are very aggressive, aren't you!
