wise car insurance

Options
hi newbie here and looking for some advice. My 18 year old son recently took out an insurance policy with wise for his car. first payment was 340 pounds in mid may then 1st of june 165 pounds was taken which was then due to be taken each month. 2nd of june he receives a letter stating his insurance was set to be cancelled. On wednesday 3rd of june he spent over an hour in the evening talking to a lady who was happy with what the dispute was over and said there was nothing to worry about. thursday morning he recieves an email saying his policy is set to terminate 11th of june. in under a month wise insurance have taken 500 pounds. My son didnt do his homework for when you check there reviews its seems he is not the only person who these circumstances refer too. They are saying that for him to cancel his policy is an additional 75 pounds, as he doesnt want this to effect a future policy elsewhere how would he be best to proceed. myself id not pay them a penny more and see them in court as im sure there company policies arent fully legal on how they operate. But i dont want to see my son refused or blacklisted from future insurance and will be cancelling anyway as in the event of any accidents or incidents feel this company arent worthy of any payout.

If these are a black box insurer and son has been driving like I sometimes did when I was 18 they will cancel.
  • he had a black box with previous insurer for one year without any troubles. from what ive read referance others reviews, the wise box seems impossible to drive within the black box parameters. i understand how 18 year olds drive his box was fitted and monitored for under 2 weeks of the policy, and having spoken to a lady on the phone she gave confirmation his score was acceptable then next day gets an email to terminate policy.

So they've confirmed his driving was acceptable - have they given a reason for cancelling his policy?
Are they claiming he's broken the terms? How had he broken the terms?

Once you've obtained more clarity over their stance, you / we will know how best to proceed.

Frankly I think those black box policies are downright dangerous. I had one once, people were overtaking me in residential estates risking pedestrians lives, tailgaters all around narrow country lanes and well pretty much everywhere and I was spending more time staring at the freaking Speedo that the road to ensure I didn't get intrusive and distracting push notifications on my phone grilling me for not causing congestion.

They demerit you for accelerating and braking sharply too. One road I drive regularly is a T junction out the back of Pathfinder Village on Tedburn Road turning right onto the A30.

Find the junction on Google maps and tell me it's safe to do that slowly 😅😅😅. Absolute insanity. That junction sent my score into meltdown.

And then there's the frequency of the system tracking you wrong and picking up the speed limit of a nearby road rather than the one you're on.

I cancelled it within two months, termination fees be damned.
