Partners car insurance higher than mine

Hi,
My partner has an insurance quote and the cheapest quote is £230 more expensive than mine. I was baffled why she pays so much for insurance and my details are so much cheaper for the same car. I put my details in to match hers other than age and gender and I still get it cheaper. Is there any reason for this?
Her details: Female, 29, HR Staff, 12 years driving, 8 years no claims
My details were the same other than being male and 31. I kept the same details to try and see why the insurance quote was so high.

She is on the electoral roll and has a decent credit history.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Age, experience, occupation all play a part.
  • I'm only 2 years older and when I put my occupation as the same as hers, and same NCD, mine is still lower?

Two years older, but the other side of a round-number breakpoint, 30th b'day.

    Same occupation?
    Same address?
    Same car?
    Both providing driving licence number?

The one thing you can guarantee won't make a difference is gender - that's illegal.

What you are insuring is not just the car, it's the 3rd party risk. If your OH is at greater risk of running over Sir James Dyson/Jim Ratcliffe/Tamara Ecclestone etc, then their premium is higher.
In the event of an accident, the cost of repairing any of the above is much greater than the cost of repairing your car...

Be careful about running too many quotes with different details while using your real name. There have been cases here of people doing that and finding some insurance companies don't want to quote for them or cancel after taking it out. If you really want to do this, use dummy personal details but that will yield a different set of premiums which may not be useful for you.

See if adding you as a second driver of the car will lower the premium. Otherwise, I will just go with the cheapest of the comparison quotes.
