Travel insurance won't pay

Hi, we have put in a claim for a villa we booked but travel insurance says because they offered to move us to an alternative date, by law they should also offer a full refund so travel insurance won't pay. Is this true and if so where is the guidelines so I can get back intouch with villa provider?

Many thanks

  • Sorry forgot to say we were due to travel at the beginning of May and our insurance policy was taken out last year.

    Thanks

What section of your travel insurance are you claiming under? What do the conditions in that section say?

I have a similar issue.  I cancelled a "non-refundable" accommodation reservation - booked in December 2019, cancelled 19th March 2020.  The accommodation offered the option to choose different dates later in the year.  With all the uncertainty, I did not feel we could choose different dates and after scrutinising my annual travel insurance policy, cancelled believing I could claim under the "Cancellation due FCO warning" section.  There is nothing within any of the policy documentation or schedule stating  that they will not pay in the event of alternative dates being offered, yet they used this reason to decline the claim.

OP, you don't make it clear if the provider has cancelled your booking or not? If not, on what basis are you seeking to cancel?
If they cancelled, then yes, you are not obliged to accept a voucher or a reschedule, you can request a refund.

You should start  your own thread as it gets confusing who is being replied to.
