Giving in notice whilst furloughed

Hi all!
Thank you so much with your help from my last thread, I'm here to ask for your help again!

I've been furloughed with each pay coming the end of every month (28th), however I've been asked to start a new full-time roll elsewhere with another company when they re-open sooner.

I was thinking of giving my notice (for 2 weeks) so that my last day would be the 28th however I wondered due to not actually working right now could they end my employment as soon as I give in my resignation so I don't "work the two weeks" and therefore not pay me the furlough money.

Thank you in advance!

Lou

If you hand in your notice, then that should be the same now as it would any normal time and your employer should honour their side of your contract of employment (as amended for furlough agreement).

You still have to give the notice period the same as normal unless you agreed to anything else when you went on furlough. An employer can choose if you work your notice period or not but they still need to pay you. Which in this case will just carry on the furlough.

As long as you are absolutely certain that your notice period is only 2 weeks then that should be ok, as Grumpy Chap said though you would be best to also have a look through the furlough agreement.
