Cancelled return flight and no help or payments from airline and travel insurance company

On 23 Mar 20 we were returning back to the UK from Thailand. Flight was cancelled 2hrs prior to take off. No airline staff available. Had to sort our own flights and hotels out which cost us a small fortune. Airline is ignoring our e mails and travel insurance wont pay us anything. Their only response is covid 19. Can anyone advise us. Many thanks
