What's the best face mask?

I'm wearing a home made face mask at work. My Mam made it out of a cloth napkin, but it's quite thick and difficult to breathe through and it gets quite soggy by the end of the day. It also doesn't fit my face well as it has gaps at the side.

I'm working in a customer environment so members of the public are very close to me when they are asking things. I'm on the shielded list so wondered if I should buy a mask with a filter in it?

Think of face masks as part of a layered scheme. Nothing is perfect. It's about reducing your risk.
You can still get infected wearing a mask, it;s just about reducing your risk.
    Breathe through your nose.
    Wear a mask (any mask)
    Keeping your distance.
Also at the end of the day, wash it in soapy water, dry it and wear it again tomorrow.

I've just been looking on Amazon and the choice is bamboozling!!!   Hundreds of sellers, all price ranges, so many conflicting reviews.   How to choose??

That's before you decide if you want round the head, or round the ears.  Disposable or washable.  Plain or patterned.

How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

    I know. I haven't a clue which is best.

Maybe it's not a good idea to be working in a customer facing role then.

I was refused furlough so had no choice. I am applying for other jobs though. I'd feel happier in an office or somewhere like that where I could keep my distance from colleagues.

granted, toilet visits can be a little awkward but you can never be too careful!
  • No advise, just disgusted that your employer won't put you on furlough when you are supposed to be shielding.
Nothing to see here, move along.

If you are shielding you are eligible for SSP.

Particularly when the market is full of counterfeit Chinese product, amongst other such suppliers.
    Make your own face covering.

Whichever one makes you look/feel good would be my response.
The evidence for wearing masks/coverings in public is sketchy at best and its more of a public confidence topic.
IF the evidence was there, they would be insisting on a certain type/grade of mask
I would be interested to see the actual wording; as anatomically, the face goes from chin to forehead, so by just covering mouth and nose that wouldn't conform with a "face covering" request (just being pedantic there)
