My annual travel insurance policy is due to expire at the beginning of July but I have had an email saying the company won’t be renewing it. I booked flights and accommodation in February for travel to Portugal  mid August. Can I still make a claim if I need to even if the policy has expired if travel is not advised nearer the time of our holiday ( is there a ‘run off’ period) ?  I presume I can’t cancel before my policy expires as  travel may be allowed mid August. Thanks for any advice.

A pitfall of annual of travel insurance is that  in  your case unless it's cancelled before your policy expires, you won't be covered for any COVID-19 travel disruption with your new policy.

Staysure reintroduced covid 19 cover on their existing policies , I'm wondering if they will

Offer it to new policies soon ?

    Continue cover on renewal ?

They are one of the few companies still taking new customers

Just to point out to anyone reading Browntoa is referring to emergency medical treatment  due to COVID-19,  NOT travel disruption as no one is currently covering that for any new policies.
Also if you travel against FCO advice  nearly all travel insurance will be invalid,

I am in a similar situation. I have an automatic renewal policy with Virgin which is due to be renewed on 6th August but my summer holiday starts on 23rd August. The holiday was booked in January. I have no idea if Virgin will cancel the auto renewal or change the terms leaving me high & dry.

Contact them and see what they say, although I can see them changing the terms and conditions on the renewal anyway.

Just for information, anyone with an existing annual travel policy issued as part of the package offered by Nationwide Flexdirect or Flexplus current accounts will see existing cover for C19 related matters continued for future holidays booked before 18.3.20, PROVIDING the account is maintained continuously and any annual add-on for age/medical conditions etc.is renewed when required. This information was given to me when I asked if C19 cover would lapse on renewal of my add ons.
