Transferring no claims discount from hire and reward insurance to private car use

Will soon be retiring from driving a taxi and find that I may not be able to transfer the no claims discount accrued on my present "for hire and reward" insurance to a car for private use.  Has anyone experienced this problem and been able to find a solution? Thanks in anticipation.

Many years ago a friend asked his previous classic car insurer who did not recognise NCB to send him proof that he had been insured with them for 5 years and had never made a claim
He then maintained that he had 5 years NCB  and sent this letter to the new insurers who granted him the discount
I often wonder how this might have turned out had the new insurers realised later what my friend did which fortunately they did'nt  and would naturally never recommend anyone did the same

  • Thanks Jumblebumble, your friend played that very cleverly albeit somewhat riskily. It seems ridiculous to me that insurance companies differentiate between commercial and private driving experience/history.
