I have actually taken the plunge (too much time thinking about it), and sent off cheques to MBNA, MBNA (Abbey cc) and Royal Bank of Scotland to get copies of my statements.
I notice that they have 40 days to get the statements to me.. is that 40 days from the cheque clearing, or date the letter was sent?
Most of these are now in the hands of debt collection agencies, so hopefully I can claim for the charges with no problem.
Has anyone had trouble getting money back from these companies - should I prepare for a fight for my money?

Its 40 days from the date of the letter.
I wrote to 6 companies and not 1 of them cashed the cheque saying they dont charge for statements.
I dont know how it works if theyre already with debt collection agencies perhaps somebody else can answer that.0 -
Hi,
Thanks for the response. I am waiting for the postman to arrive with all of my statements (list of charges) - hope that he is feeling strong!

Hi All,
I finally bit the bullet, and sent of cheques for RBS, MBNA and Abbey (MBNA) credit cards.
MBNA - Not cashed the cheque & no sign of the statements
RBS - Cashed the cheque over a week ago, and no statements How long should I wait for the list of charges to be printed?
Has anyone else had a similar experience with these companies? The next step is to call them on the 40th day after I sent the letters.
Any help/advice/comments would be greatfully received.
Thanks

Hi,
I need a bit of advice if possible.
At the end of October I sent a letter to RBS requesting a list of charges, along with a cheque for £10.
RBS banked the cheque 3 weeks ago, but no statements since. I wrote my account number, and 'for information relating to statements/list of charges for the past 6 years. Any idea if RBS are slow at sending the information out?
Any advice would be appreciated.Debts at the start of my journey - about £23,000 lightbulb moment 01.03.2007 (1st payment to CCCS)..Debt Free Date 25.06.2013 Deposit savings £17,000/£30,0000 -
Hi,
Just had an interesting conversation with RBS.
The number I had for Customer Relations had an automated message, that if I was calling about charges, to call XXXX number.
Then, I got to speak to someone. I had called up to check my balance, and found that they had credited my cheque to my debt !!!
I explained what the cheque was for, and that I had written on the back of it that the payment was for a list of charges applied on the account for the past 6 years.
Anyhow, RBS have not got the letter on their file, so I need to fax over a copy of it, with a letter explaining dates and details, and they can action it.
Fingers crossed, and will post here any updates.Debts at the start of my journey - about £23,000 lightbulb moment 01.03.2007 (1st payment to CCCS)..Debt Free Date 25.06.2013 Deposit savings £17,000/£30,0000
