Minus amount in energy bill

just had a mail from octopus that I am in £900 debt re energy.i have been paying what they suggested since October.  Why have they let this mount up to this amount.  Surely they should have sent s mail if I wasn’t keeping up with bills?!

Have you been sending them meter readings each month, or do you have smart meters?
Also, have you been getting a statement each month via email?

One of the good things about Octopus is that you get a bill within hours of sending them a reading.

Read your meters NOW and come back later in the day when you've got a up to date bill. I suspect what you have at the moment is based on an estimate.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Or previous bills have been based on estimates and this one is based on actual readings!

Have you provided regular meter readings?

You really need to be making sure that the amount you are paying is covering the amount of energy you are using. It is not the energy companies job to sort out your finances. You need to take some responsibility for your accounts.

If you never look at the fuel gauge, you'll get a shock when you take your car on a long journey...
