Where do we stand
we have booked as a family to go to Spain for 10 nights and have paid the balance.
we have had no information if it is still going ahead or if it will be cancelled.
we have decided that we would rather not go this year but have no idea how we stand with cancelling, transferring the date or what other options we have.
surely, with current situations we can not be forced to go on the holiday and if we decide not to, lose our money?
any further advice would be greatly appreciated.

It looks unlikely you will be going in July to Spain. You will just have to be patient as agents are working on strict order of travel. When they get to your date they will advise you of your options. I wouldn't cancel at this time as you would lose a large portion of your money (whatever the t's and c's say about cancellation so near to the holiday.. Obviously if, by some miracle, all back to normal then you would be expected to go but seems unlikely.Deli8119 said:Hello, I am after some advice as to where we stand with travel abroad with a package holiday this July (2020).

I have been trying to get a refund from Ryanair for cancelled flights and have received a reply claiming the following:
"As per interpretive guidelines on EU passenger rights, announced by the EU commission on cancellations caused due to COVID 19, this is now classified as an extraordinary circumstance and compensation does not apply under EU261/2004."
I have searched the EU commission site and can find no reference to this in fact the reference I found dated 14th May 2020 says:
The EU called on all member states on Wednesday (13 May) to stick to EU rules on passenger rights for booked journeys cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic - but stayed away from starting legal proceedings against EU countries over the issue of cash refunds.
Can anyone advise if Ryanair are just trying it on?

You are entitled to a refund not compensation.TimmyTrouble said:I have been trying to get a refund from Ryanair for cancelled flights and have received a reply claiming the following:

Trying it on in what way? They should be refunding you, but you can't claim compensation for the cancellation, just a refund.TimmyTrouble said:I have been trying to get a refund from Ryanair for cancelled flights and have received a reply claiming the following:

This is a global pandemic - the very definition of extraordinary circumstances.0
