                                  in Credit cards

Please can anyone help me. I was a victim of identity theft in January. Barclays Bank Account opened and a Barclaycard. Despite reporting this immediately I have continued to receive debt letters and also a bad debt on my otherwise clear Credit files. I report it every time  I get a letter and end up being passed around and  on hold for over an hour. and keep being told its being dealt with.Today I received another awful letter  from Barclaycard and again have been on hold for 1 hour 36 mins as I type!!!!.  I am in the process of getting a Mortgage and cannot proceed with this on my file until proof  that it's not me that owes the Bank and Card. Im getting nowhere. All Im told is " don't worry It'll be removed from your files when we get it sorted out" Which isn't helping me at the moment. Please has anybody had this and got any advice for me.

Report the crime to the police. Obtain a crime reference number.
Write to Barclays Bank and Barclaycard explaining the situation, citing the crime reference number in your letter to them.
Explain that you expect the accounts to be closed, all letters to stop, and all record of the accounts to be expunged from your credit files immediately.
Explain that you'll escalate the matter to the FOS if this hasn't been actioned within the appropriate timeframes.
If eight weeks pass and Barclays have done nothing, escalate the matter to the FOS.

Yes it happened to me too, some scumbag/s opened a Next account and an Amazon credit card in my name, I contacted Next and Amazon who were very helpful and told me THEY would cancel everything and take the accounts off my credit files which they did and it took around 8 weeks, they also both put 'protective registrations' on which last for 2 years and basically make any future lenders scrutinise applications a bit more, its to protect you going forward and nothing to be concerned about.
Only Barclays can sort the problem out for you and I would think there will be a delay due to Covid but I'm sure they will sort it so don't worry you'll just have to have a little patience. Oh and you need to report this to Action fraud too.0

Thank you. It's just the Mortgage Company need proof in writing and I can't get that. And its upsetting getting debt agent letters.0

And you will get the proof for mortgage company at some stage, unfortunately nobody here can tell you when that will be. You could contact the debt collection agencies telling them what has happened to you to maybe at the very least stop them escalating the alleged debt. I found I had to be quite pro active in dealing with something that was absolutely not my fault but as I've said only Barclays can really solve it all for you.0

Hi, Out of the blue I have just received a letter from a debt collection agency demanding payment of an outstanding debt of c.£12500 saying I had not responded to previous correspondence and outlining methods of payment. After further enquiries they have said it pertains to £5000 borrowed from a loan company at over 40% interest last August. All I can presume is that I have been the victim of identity theft as I did not take out a loan and have not had any previous correspondence. I have asked for proof of this but am very concerned how this could have happened and should I report it to the police? The debt collectors said they will put it on hold for 7 days but that it has already gone up to over £13000! Any advice?0

Wait for them to respond with proof. It may not even be in your name so is unlikely to be identity theft, but a debtor with a similar name.
In the meantime, check your credit files.0

Can anyone advise please? TIA0
