Major Dealership: Used Discount Haggle?

Poor terminology from Moi initially. It is of course a pre-reg and I’d receive the remainder of the manufacturer’s warranty.Car_54 said:Seems a bit confused "This a 69 plate diesel vehicle which has <50 miles and I’m told has been sat at the dealership unregistered since December."If it really is unregistered, then the 69 plates will come off and it'll get a 20 plate when it's actually registered.I suspect it's really a pre-reg. In addition to the comments about that above, I'd add that the warranty has been ticking away for six months, and the first service will probably be due in December.
In any event, it turned out that the haggling would be zero. They weren’t interested one bit in reducing the price by a single pound. At least I got to drive the car and know for certain I like it, so will now look nationally for the best deal. Thanks for all your advice folks.0 -
Check against what the likes of drivethedeal and broadspeed will do a new car for.Car_54 said:Seems a bit confused "This a 69 plate diesel vehicle which has <50 miles and I’m told has been sat at the dealership unregistered since December."If it really is unregistered, then the 69 plates will come off and it'll get a 20 plate when it's actually registered.I suspect it's really a pre-reg. Also if you're planning on using finance, a pre-reg car wont qualify for the incentives (on rate and contributions) that a new car will.
And dont forget whilst its a "new" car now, it will be valued as a 2019 car come trade in time.
BUT, assuming you've done all that due diligence and its working out £,£££s cheaper than a discounted new one, then yes, i'd go wherever you need to nationwide to get the best deal. It will be your local franchise who'll be servicing it and maintaining it anyway.0 -
Also Cash isn't king anymore - You might get a better deal by taking their finance deal price - and paying off the finance a week or two later

Not necessarily. I got £1,500 in "contributions" to take a PCP on an ex-demonstrator a couple of years ago.motorguy said:

It may qualify for incentives if you take out the manufacturers finance, but it wont qualify for the (same) incentives that a new car will.Car_54 said:

Prices seem to have risen on pre reg. I have just checked and the same model I bought in December at 2 weeks old are now selling for £2-3K more than I paid with late Dec and Jan registrations so 6 month old cars. So maybe they will discount but they have made themselves space to discount down to what they were priced at before the lockdown.

There may also be an issue getting new car stock - manufacturers have not yet ramped up production, so dealers arent feeling a need now to sell the pre-reg cars out cheap.molerat said:Prices seem to have risen on pre reg. Quite right, cash isn't king anymore in the car trade. Dealers make their profit on finance deals.bob_a_builder said:Also Cash isn't king anymore - You might get a better deal by taking their finance deal price - and paying off the finance a week or two later
When I was shopping around last year I did a few searches online and came across some really good deals from main dealerships across the country. It may be less convenient but there are some good savings if you spend some time checking out other options.0 -
sub 100 miles is delivery miles, its basically a new car, hopefully at a suitably discounted price.0

The OP has said they could not get any further discount on the sticker price, but not whether the sticker prices was a good price anyway for the car against brand new.
Do all the things that everyone else said to know the true cost to buy that car brand new and then is the car at a good price?
Another thing I have done sometimes is to put the car reg plate into webuyanycar and get their trade valuation - that can sometimes be interesting if the car is one they need gone.
If this car had truly sat unsold since December, it may have been priced at just above auction in any case.0
