Although as others have said why are you shielding if you never got the letter? Was it by choice or by your employers choice? If it was by your choice then SSP is all you are entitled to if it was employer choice could be a bit more difficult, depending on what your contract says. 
    Had a major argument with my mum about this bloody letter weeks ago as she felt she should have had it but didn't.

    as far as I can see it was only those who were extremely vulnerable got the letter but as mum is over 70, diabetic & has lung conditions she would have been extremely stupid not to.
