Are Barclays the Worst

Is it just me having a bad time trying to get a mortgage with Barclays, or are they just horrendous?
My mortgage application was agreed and a valuation was booked in prior to lockdown, but they day before the valuation was due, the lockdown was announced so it was suspended.
Since then I can’t get any information out of them. My broker can’t get any updates, so eventually I phoned Barclays myself but they told me they can’t help because the application is via a broker. I pushed a little and they checked their notes and said the underwriter is waiting for the broker to confirm the property address. Broker apparently knew nothing about this. In any case, I called Barclays a few days later but they wouldn’t help me at all. I called the surveyor company but they told me they can’t help me because it is a Barclays account and they use passwords to access them, so I need to go via Barclays.
Goodness me, I can’t seem to get any status update on the application.

  • yes they are horrendous.  They are the most despised lender in our industry and you will meet plenty brokers who will just flat out refuse to use them and send clients away if they are the only option.

I don't mind Barclays but I have a great bdm who is very on the ball.
The problem is that the Barclays broker phone line is out of action so the only way to get updates is to contact the bdm or check tracking. If tracking didn't mention a problem the broker may have just thought they were awaiting a booking date. Hopefully now they know there is an issue they can get it moving again for you

We put in an application to re-mortgage with Barclays only 20% of property value (we are existing customers) in February.  We are still waiting for a completion date.  We only got information when we chased them.  Every step seems to have taken 3-4 weeks.  It has been a complete nightmare but we are nearly there now.

Goodness that sounds painful. I don’t know why they’re so slow, even without the pandemic.

Interesting they’re line is down. Makes me wonder if they’re actually doing anything at all. When I phoned them once they told me they’re centres have closed so some of their teams have vanished.

Lol, I can see why. I found out today they surveyed the wrong property. Not sure if that’s a lie really or just a delaying tactic, but either way they’re a mess.

This is a minor problem in the scheme of things but I have a mortgage with Barclays and I am finding it impossible to speak to someone there about their online banking service. I registered for online banking with them a couple of months ago so that I can view my account online but I cannot log on.  After numerous attempts, and hours spent waiting on the phone, I succeeded in speaking to a member of the online banking team last week but, despite her assurances, I am still unable to view my account.  Grrrrrr....
