My furlough has been stopped but they're not letting me work

I've been told today that my work will not be opening until September at the earliest and have been furloughed from 6th April until 13th June. I have been told that my furlough payments won't be continued and that I can't work for the company. Is this fair? Is my company allowed to do this and leave me with no income for the next 2 and a half months? I'm a student and rely on this income for my rent, it does not seem fair to me, is there something I can do?

It depends on what your contract of employment says, as amended by any furlough agreement. It may be best to look for some work to tide you over.0

Sounds as your employer is putting the shutters down. As there's no certainty as to when, or even if the business will ever resume trading. Start a search for a new job.0

Why is the company making this change at this time,?0

My guess is that they don't want to start a furlough period that will extend into July for some reason.0

Probably as they will have to start contributing and they don't want to.0

Not till August, according to current advice.sharpe106 said:Probably as they will have to start contributing and they don't want to.0 -
If the business has no income until September it's chances of long term survival are probably no better than 50/50.sharpe106 said:Probably as they will have to start contributing and they don't want to.0 -
What are your contractual hours.
If you are on a zero hours contract then they are correct and you have to apply for Universal Credit. If you have hours in your contract and they are not honouring them, then you can raise the issue of unlawful deduction from wages (aka no-pay) and go to Tribunal for what is effectively unfair dismissal (as no redundancy has been offered).
