How can I go about proving my NCD when I have had insurance companies not give me one and also having moved a few too many times I no longer have any idea of who I have had insurance with in the past. Surely there must be a data base otherwise I could draft up my own NCD certificate and make it up for as many years as I like? The onus is on you to prove your innocence which I feel is wrong and there must be a better system than this.

No theres no database that can provide proof of your NCD.
It doesnt matter how many insurance companies youve been with or how many times youve moved the only real proof you have is the renewal you recieved from your last insurance company.
The NCD is usually only valid for two years so if its linger than that your back to zero.0 -
If you've had insurance within the last two years surely you can remember who it was with. Check your bank statements or credit card statements !0

They will all provide details ot the NCD on the last renewal notice.
There must be some sort of database though as I've just switched companies and they've said they've retreived my NCD details so I dont need to send them any proof.0 -

It is then your responsibility to keep, hold and cherish.
This is what you show your new insurer.
So just look at your paperwork / renewal policy.
If you have not had insurance for more than two years, then its safe to assume you do not have any NCD.
Unfortunately drafting up a fake NCD certificate and putting as many years as you like on it would not really work.

I thought there was a database now to validate NCD. No idea if it is searchable though0

There is a database to check if you've had any accidents but it cant show how many years NCD you have built up.
Some insurers provisionally accept whatever NCD you tell me you have got and if you have an accident during the policy they then look at the database to basically check if you've told them the truth.
